Aeon Special Collections Software Experiences 66% Increase in Customer Base

Growth also seen in Atlas System’s e-reserve software sales and new staff positions

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – June 24, 2014 – Atlas Systems, the leading provider of time-saving solutions for libraries, announced today the continued growth in sales for Aeon, its special collections management software, and for Ares, its e-reserve software. New staff positions and ILLiad, Ares, and Aeon product releases also were announced.

According to Dan Specht, CFO/VP Sales and Marketing, the user community for Aeon has grown by more than 66% from twenty-six institutions to forty-two. Institutions that have selected Aeon in the past six months include: Center for Jewish History (NY); Pennsylvania State University; Rockefeller Archive Center (NY); University of Michigan, Bentley Historical Library; and University of Michigan, William L. Clements Library. Aeon 3.6, released in April, adds new photoduplication functionality as well as other customer-requested enhancements.

The Ares e-reserve user community also continues to expand with almost 100 institutions in the US and Canada currently using the software to enhance service to faculty and students and track and manage copyright. New licensees in the past six months include: Caldwell College (NJ); Concordia University (Canada); University of Portland (OR); Fordham University (NY); Hofstra University (NY); and University of San Diego. Ares 4.4, released June 23, 2014, supports shared reserve lists, among other new functionality added based on customer input.

To meet the needs of its growing customer base, Atlas has added five new staff members including two in customer training, two in IT, and one in administration.

In addition to the Ares and Aeon releases, ILLiad 8.5 for interlibrary loan was released June 1, 2014. This release delivers enhanced borrowing notifications in addition to changes needed to integrate with OCLC WorldShare ILL.

Commenting on the growth in Aeon sales, Specht said “We are gratified by the reception Aeon is receiving in the special collections and archives community. Aeon is increasingly seen as a standard and essential system for managing special collections and archives.” Aeon simultaneously provides benefits in three key areas: service, security, and statistics. The software can be integrated with ILLiad, Compendium’s KnowledgeTracker, OCLC CONTENTdm, Islandora, and other systems to increase overall efficiency in receiving and managing user requests.
