Server Installation
The first step in your ILLiad implementation is usually arranging your server installation. If your server is hosted by Atlas Systems, Atlas will immediately create your web server and ILLiad database. If you are hosting your own ILLiad server, Atlas will arrange with your IT staff a way to install ILLiad on your server remotely (using remote desktop connection or WebEx) or send instructions for self-installation.
Server Hosted by Atlas
If you chose the server hosting option when purchasing OCLC ILLiad, Atlas Systems will create an individual web server for your institution as well as an ILLiad database for your implementation. You will receive an email from Atlas staff explaining your server's web address, how to access your web file remotely, and other information about your server. Because Atlas is hosting your server, you do not need to purchase any server hardware or software for you ILLiad implementation. Details on the hosted server option are available under Hosted Server Information.
Hosting Your Own Server
If you are hosting your own server, the first step is to have the hardware ready and the OS installed. You can review the OCLC ILLiad Installation Guide for information on how to setup the Windows server and Microsoft SQL Server. This guide includes information on which ports must be available and security settings necessary for the server to function as an ILLiad server. Atlas will install the ILLiad Server software remotely using either Remote Desktop Connection (included with Windows server) or WebEx (allowing your staff to view the process as Atlas performs the installation). If you have questions about any of this process, please contact our support team at
Ports and Connectivity
If you are installing OCLC ILLiad on a server at your institution, confirm that each client machine is able to connect to the ILLiad share on the server. The ILL staff need read access only to that ILLiad share on the server. You can create a test share and see if you can access it from the client machines (verify usernames and passwords, etc.). You may also choose to give some staff write access to that share to replace templates as needed, but that is at your discretion.
An overview of what ports are used by ILLiad is available in the Atlas Knowledge Base at INFO: What Ports are Required to be Open for General ILLiad Use?
