Going Live with Lending

When you are ready to go live with Lending, you can contact Service to arrange for an on-site visit from one of our expert trainers. The trainer will walk you through going live with your ILLiad installation for Lending and you will be able to process live requests using the ILLiad system hands-on. You will also receive further information on your Borrowing customization and implementation process as well as helpful hints for after the trainer leaves.

Getting Ready

The following handout is a good checklist of things to review before your trainer comes on-site. If you have questions about any of the process, please contact Atlas at

A Typical Day On-Site

The primary focus of the day is to cover the Lending module and get your library live with Lending. During the day, your staff will be able to process incoming live requests using ILLiad and retrieve items from the stacks for delivery. A rough outline of the day is as follows:

  • Brief overview of documentation and how to get support
  • User Manager (staff permissions to the client)
  • Customization Manager (editing preferences from Installation Wizard)
  • Basic client overview (navigating the screens, etc.)
  • Processing live Lending requests
  • Searching ILS for call number and locations
  • Printing pull slips to retrieve items from the stacks
  • Updating the stacks search results (marking items as found or not found)
  • Printing shipping labels
  • Overview of Odyssey for sending articles electronically
  • Overview of how to complete items when they are returned
  • General request maintenance in the client
  • Library address maintenance
  • Manually adding requests
  • OCLC request maintenance (special messages, resource sharing settings, etc.)
  • Brief overview of Borrowing
  • After the trainer leaves and review

The goal at the end of the day is for staff to feel comfortable using ILLiad to process live Lending requests. Once staff are using the system on a daily basis, your library can work on customizing your implementation for Borrowing and becoming familiar with those procedures.
