INFO: What Ports are Required to be Open for General ILLiad Use?
January 6, 2006
SUMMARY
Required Ports
In order to allow access to ILLiad and its various component parts, the following ports are required to be open.
- 1433 for SQL Server: This allows the ILLiad Client to communicate with the database. This would only need to be open for the web server (if separate server) and the ILLiad clients to access the SQL Server. If you have changed the port used by SQL Server, this port number will be different.
- 80 for the Web pages: This allows customers to access the ILLiad Web pages. This would need to be open to everyone or could be restricted if you wanted to limit access to the customer interface (not commonly done).
- 443 for the ILLiad Connection Manager and ILLiad Client: This allows the Connection Manager and ILLiad Clients to contact OCLC for Update and Download Purposes. This would only need to be open outbound to webservices.oclc.org.
- 20 and 21 for the AutoUpdater: This allows the AutoUpdater to FTP new versions of ILLiad components from the Atlas server. This only needs to be open to update.atlas-sys.com.
- 7968 for Odyssey Electronic Delivery: This allows the Electronic Delivery client machines to send electronic documents to the ILLiad Server and the ILLiad Server to send those documents out to other ILLiad Servers using the Odyssey Protocol.
- 1611 for ISO ILL: This allows the ILLiad client to send and receive ISO ILL requests. This would be open to all ip addresses usually.
- 499 for OCLC Direct Request (if used): This allows the ILLiad server to communicate with OCLC to send Direct Request items. This would only need to be open outbound to isoill.oclc.org.
- 389 for standard LDAP and 636 for SSL: These are only necessary if your particular authentication method requires it.
- 4500 for Innopac PatronAPI: This is only necessary if your particular authentication method requires it.
Optional Ports
If you plan on using Z39.50 to search your local OPAC from within ILLiad, you will need to check that the ILLiad Client machines have access to the Z39.50 server over that port. This port differs from OPAC to OPAC so you will need to verify that value.
If you want to allow access to your ILLiad Server via Terminal Services, port 3389 should be opened. You can decide if you want to open this to particular ip address ranges or all ip addresses. You can also leave the port open and just turn on Terminal Services on the server as needed.
