Create A Class

An Instructor enters a class name and course number (section number/Class number is optional by default).  The instructor field is populated with the instructor’s name.  If the user is a proxy user for someone else, a dropdown box will appear to allow them to choose the actual instructor if it is not them.  A Department is selected, and a semester is chosen.  The user can also enter a URL Link to a website that the instructor will use for the class.  A description for the class can also be entered.

The Enrollment field is optional by default but can be used by Ares to help calculate copyright costs. See Processing Copyright for more info.

Class Authentication can be set up on a class if desired.  If the Instructor is concerned about copyright issues, privacy, material sensitivity, etc, the class can be restricted by a password that the instructor will share with the class (either by email or verbally in class).  The password will be needed by a student user to add the class to their Ares account.

Instead of (or in addition to) passwords, the user can enter a list of Student IDs on the class so that when those student users log on to Ares, they will see the class automatically on their Main Menu.  This list can be edited any time to include access to new students or revoke access to others (after Add/Drop for example).

A Default Pickup Location drop down field will appear on the form if Pickup Locations have been set up in Ares.  Click here for more information setting up Pickup Locations.  The instructor will choose the Pickup/Dropoff location they will use to deposit materials for students to access, if they cannot be made available electronically through Ares.
