Atlas Systems’ Aeon Program Director Christian Dupont to Join Boston College as Burns Librarian

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – May 22, 2014 – Atlas Systems, the leading provider of time-saving solutions for libraries, announced today the appointment of Aeon Program Director Christian Dupont as Burns Librarian and Associate University Librarian at Boston College, effective September 1. The Honorable John J. Burns Library houses the University’s extensive special collections and archives.

Atlas chief financial officer and vice president for sales and marketing, Dan Specht, congratulated Dupont on his new position and expressed the management team’s appreciation for his significant contribution to Atlas and its customers. “Christian first brought us the concept for Aeon and then joined Atlas in 2008 to lead its development and promotion. Thanks to his efforts, Aeon has become the premier online user request and workflow management system for special collections and archives.” Specht remarked that the Aeon user community has grown by more than 50% over the last year. “To date, Aeon has been adopted by 37 institutions and several more have committed to implementing in the coming months,” he added.

“It has been extremely satisfying to help Atlas draw upon its innovative products and expertise in resource sharing to develop a system tailored to the needs of special collections and archives, and to establish Atlas as a knowledgeable and trusted partner in those communities,” Dupont commented. “Having achieved that goal I am eager to bring my entrepreneurial drive and experience back to directing the special collections of a leading academic library. The Burns Library is an ideal fit in many ways.”

Dupont previously served as director of special collections at the University of Virginia and Syracuse University. He also held curatorial and reference positions in special collections at the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a doctorate in theology.

Aeon 3.6 for Special Collections Management Now Available

On April 15, 2014 Atlas Systems released version 3.6 of the Aeon software for special collections circulation and workflow management.  Highlights of the release include:

  • Events have been renamed to Activities and allow for their own statuses to track them.
  • Activities can have their own billing category in addition to users’ billing categories.
  • Researchers/Customers can have one or more billing accounts that they can use for referencing requests.
  • Service Packages can be applied to photoduplication requests to more quickly add several charges at once.

This release is photoduplication and billing focused, which will enable Atlas to expand that functionality in future releases. For additional information on new features in the Aeon 3.6, visit the Aeon 3.6 documentation site.

Libraries that are self-hosted should refer to the Aeon documentation for details on upgrading to the new release. Libraries hosted by Atlas should contact their Customer Service Agent to schedule their upgrade.
